Next of Kin

Enchantment — Aura

Enchant creature
When enchanted creature dies, you may put a creature card you own with lesser mana value from your hand or from the command zone onto the battlefield. If you do, return this card to the battlefield attached to that creature at the beginning of the next end step.

Next of Kin card art
Next of Kin turns every creature death into a free clone of the biggest thing on the board — the impact is massive and it costs nothing in mana once it's in play. The setup price is three mana and a legendary creature sacrifice, which means it pairs best with commanders like Sakashima of a Thousand Faces that want to flood the board with copies anyway.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Next of Kin lives — sacrifice loops, aristocrats builds, and clone strategies all have obvious homes for it, and the singleton format means opponents rarely see it coming. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but effectively invisible; those formats move too fast for a setup-heavy enchantment that requires a creature dying before it does anything. Oathbreaker could support it in the right shell, but the same constraint applies: you need a critical mass of sacrifice outlets and valuable targets to make the trigger matter.

Price Context

Current price

$0.43 bulk tier

At $0.43, Next of Kin is firmly bulk — a throw-in at nearly any price point. Given its niche but powerful role in sacrifice and clone strategies, it's unlikely to spike hard, but it's also cheap enough to grab a copy before any Commander content cycle drives a brief wave of demand.
