Morophon, the Boundless card art
Morophon, the Boundless lands on the battlefield and immediately makes every creature of the chosen type cost two generic less to cast — a passive cost-reduction engine that turns synergistic tribes into avalanche turns. The seven-mana price tag is steep, but in Sliver decks where Hibernation Sliver can bounce and replay it freely, or in The Ur-Dragon shells where eminence already discounts it by three, Morophon earns its slot every time.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
The Ur-Dragon

The Ur-Dragon

53.8% of decks · synergy 0.40

The Ur-Dragon's eminence ability already shaves three mana off Morophon, the Boundless on the way in, making it a four-mana cost-reducer that immediately starts discounting every subsequent Dragon — the two effects stack into a compounding mana advantage that lets the deck flood the board faster than almost any other Dragon shell can.

02
The First Sliver

The First Sliver

49.6% of decks · synergy 0.36

The First Sliver pairs with Morophon, the Boundless to make most of the Sliver tribe free or near-free to cast, which means cascade triggers chain deeper and wider than they have any right to — together they form the core cost-and-cascade engine that defines the archetype.

Morophon, the Boundless is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but its real home has always been Commander. At seven mana it's simply too slow for Legacy and Vintage, where tribal synergies aren't a meaningful axis and faster threats dominate; Modern has no tribe that needs a seven-mana do-nothing-until-next-turn payoff when cheaper lord effects exist. In Commander, the math changes completely — a 100-card singleton format with a built-in commander tax means cost-reduction that applies to an entire tribe over multiple turns generates enormous value, and the singleton rule makes Morophon's catchall tribal identity a genuine selling point rather than a gimmick.
