The First Sliver turns every Sliver you cast into a cascading chain reaction — one spell becomes two, two becomes four, and a stacked library can end the game on the spot. The seven-mana price tag is steep, but no other commander rewards a critical mass of Slivers with that kind of raw card advantage, and Yomiji, Who Bars the Way aside, nothing else in the format replaces it.

Commander is the natural home for The First Sliver — five-color identity, legendary status, and a cascade ability that scales with the density of Slivers in your 99 make it both a commander and a build-around centerpiece. In Legacy, it's technically legal but almost never played; the format moves too fast for a seven-mana creature that doesn't immediately win the game on resolution. Vintage is the same story — the raw power of the format means The First Sliver simply isn't fast enough to compete. Commander remains the only format where the card's ceiling is fully realized.
