Commander is where Miren, the Moaning Well earns its keep — sacrifice outlets on lands are rare, and the combination of free inclusion cost (it's just a land) and political life-gain utility makes it a quiet staple in any black or colorless deck that wants a sacrifice engine without spending a card slot. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; four mana for a life-gain activation competes poorly with the efficiency of those formats, and dedicated sacrifice decks there have far faster options. Modern is the same story — the activation cost is too slow to matter in a format where the game is often decided by turn four. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander 60-card-adjacent format where it sees occasional play, specifically in life-total-matters or aristocrats signatures where a free land-based outlet is genuinely hard to replace.
