Micromancer card art
Micromancer enters and fetches any instant or sorcery with mana value 1 or less — a body stapled to a tutor, no hoops required beyond the mana cost. The catch is that 1-or-less ceiling, which makes it a specialist: it shines when your deck leans on cheap interaction or payoffs like Wheel of Sun and Moon, and it's a dead inclusion if it doesn't, but Orvar, the All-Form decks that copy it for free extra ETBs barely notice the restriction.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Orvar, the All-Form

Orvar, the All-Form

19.1% of decks · synergy 0.18

Orvar, the All-Form triggers off any instant or sorcery that targets one of your permanents, so casting a cheap cantrip to copy Micromancer means you get both a fresh ETB tutor and another copy of the cantrip's effect — the engine feeds itself.

02
Kykar, Zephyr Awakener

Kykar, Zephyr Awakener

9.6% of decks · synergy 0.09

Kykar, Zephyr Awakener cares about cheap instants and sorceries that keep the board moving, and Micromancer slots in as a redundant tutor to find whichever 1-drop spell the situation demands, turning a creature slot into consistent access to the deck's interaction package.

In Commander, Micromancer earns its seat in any deck where a specific 1-mana instant or sorcery is load-bearing — it's not a generic good card, it's a redundancy engine for your best cheap spell. Competitive and casual tables alike tolerate a 3/1 for four with a free tutor stapled on, so the floor is respectable. In non-rotating 60-card formats like Legacy and Modern it rarely makes the cut because dedicated tutor suites are more efficient and the body is undersized, but it's legal across both. Pioneer and Standard have fewer tutors at any price point, so Micromancer has occasional niche applications there when the right 1-mana target exists. Pauper is the only format where it can't play at all.

$0.21 bulk tier

At $0.21, Micromancer is pure bulk — pick it up in any order where it fits without a second thought. Bulk uncommons with narrow but real applications tend to stay cheap indefinitely, so there's no urgency either way.
