Infernal Plunge card art
Infernal Plunge converts a sacrifice into three red mana at instant speed — that's a net gain of two mana on any token or expendable creature, which is exactly the fuel that storm and combo engines run on. In dedicated shells like Rootha, Mercurial Artist or Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Silas Renn, Seeker Adept, the card-disadvantage clause is irrelevant because the creature was always going to die for value anyway.

Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Silas Renn, Seeker Adept

72.6% of decks · synergy 0.71

Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Silas Renn, Seeker Adept runs Infernal Plunge because Rograkh enters for free and dies for three mana — a two-mana gain with no real cost — making it one of the most efficient ritual effects in the deck's storm-combo package.

Dargo, the ShipwreckerTymna the Weaver

Dargo, the Shipwrecker // Tymna the Weaver

41.1% of decks · synergy 0.40

Dargo, the Shipwrecker // Tymna the Weaver uses Infernal Plunge to fuel the cost reduction engine: sacrificing a token to generate three red mana simultaneously reduces Dargo's cost and provides mana to cast other spells in the same turn.

Rakdos, the Muscle

Rakdos, the Muscle

41.1% of decks · synergy 0.39

Rakdos, the Muscle wants creatures in the graveyard and free mana in the same breath, and Infernal Plunge delivers both — sacrifice a creature Rakdos already incentivized you to play aggressively and convert it into a burst of red mana to keep the chain moving.

Infernal Plunge is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it plays very differently across those formats. In Commander it earns its slot exclusively in combo and storm decks that have a reliable stream of expendable creatures — outside that context, paying a card and a creature for three mana is a poor rate. In Pauper it sees occasional play in red-black sacrifice shells where the density of cheap creatures makes the creature cost acceptable. In Legacy and Vintage it's outclassed by Pyretic Ritual and Desperate Ritual, which ask nothing beyond the mana to cast them — Infernal Plunge's extra creature cost is too steep when those alternatives exist.

Price Context

Current price

$0.34 bulk tier

At $0.34, Infernal Plunge is deep bulk — it costs less than a sleeve and shows up in specialized combo decks rather than the broad Commander population, which keeps demand too narrow to push the price higher. It's a set-and-forget purchase: grab a copy when you need it and don't expect the price to move meaningfully in either direction.
