Grave Peril enters the battlefield and immediately destroys a creature with flying — free removal stapled to a two-mana enchantment that replaces itself on arrival. The catch is narrow targeting: if the board has no fliers, it does nothing, making it a sideboard-grade effect dressed as a mainboard card.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Grave Peril is too inconsistent to rely on — flying creatures are common enough that it will usually fire, but paying two mana for a sorcery-speed removal trigger on your own turn is far below the bar when you have access to Swords to Plowshares or even Bone Shards. Pauper is the format where Grave Peril has the most plausible home, since the removal pool is shallower and fliers like Spellstutter Sprite and Faerie Miscreant are format staples worth answering. In Legacy and Vintage, the competition from instant-speed interaction is so overwhelming that Grave Peril never sees play. It's technically legal in Modern but strictly outclassed there as well.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Grave Peril is deep bulk — pick it up out of a commons box if the Pauper angle genuinely appeals to you. Don't expect the price to move; narrow, conditional removal at common doesn't accumulate demand.
