Grand Architect card art
Grand Architect buffs every blue creature you control and converts them into a mana engine that pays for artifacts — two effects that compound fast in any artifact-heavy shell. The Pili-Pala combo alone makes it a staple, and pairing it with Memnarch turns that mana into a board-theft machine that ends games.

Grand Architect's tap-for-blue-mana ability is exactly the fuel Memnarch needs to fire its steal ability repeatedly in a single turn — the two cards form the core engine of the deck, and it's why over half of Memnarch lists run Grand Architect.

Commander is where Grand Architect does its best work — artifact synergy is abundant, blue creature counts are high in the right shells, and the combo ceiling with Pili-Pala is fully accessible at a 100-card singleton table. In Legacy and Vintage, it's legal but too slow and narrow to see real play; those formats don't need a three-mana lord to accelerate artifacts when faster options exist. Modern is the only 60-card format where Grand Architect has ever been seriously considered, and even there it lives in fringe artifact combo lists rather than any established tier. Stick to Commander.

Price Context

Current price

$0.94 bulk tier

At $0.94, Grand Architect is firmly bulk, which is surprising given how frequently it appears in competitive artifact builds. The price reflects supply more than demand — pick it up without hesitation, because there's no scenario where this is an overpay.
