God-Pharaoh's Gift

Artifact

At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may exile a creature card from your graveyard. If you do, create a token that's a copy of that card, except it's a 4/4 black Zombie. It gains haste until end of turn.

God-Pharaoh's Gift card art
God-Pharaoh's Gift turns your graveyard into a repeating token engine — every end step you get a 4/4 with an enters-the-battlefield trigger stapled on, which is a punishing clock opponents have to answer immediately. Seven mana is steep, but commanders like Ghired, Conclave Exile that already want large tokens in play make the cost feel like a bargain by turn five or six.

Commander is where God-Pharaoh's Gift does its best work — the format's longer games give you time to hit seven mana, and graveyard-stacking strategies built around reanimation or self-mill make the activation window predictable rather than aspirational. In Pioneer it saw real play as the centerpiece of Gate to the Afterlife combo shells, where the seven-mana cost became irrelevant because you never intended to cast it fair. Legacy and Vintage have enough raw power floating around that a seven-mana artifact without immediate protection is too slow to compete seriously. Modern sits in the middle: the card exists there, but faster combo and interaction density make the fair version unplayable and the combo version a niche pick at best.
