Faith of the Devoted turns every discard into a drain-one-gain-one, and in decks that discard compulsively, that adds up to lethal quickly. The three-mana enchantment asks almost nothing — pair it with Skirge Familiar or Anje Falkenrath cycling through Madness cards and opponents lose life in chunks while you gain a comfortable buffer.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Anje Falkenrath
Anje Falkenrath's entire game plan is cycling through Madness cards at machine-gun speed, and Faith of the Devoted converts every one of those discards into a life-drain trigger — a table can fall to zero without a single creature dealing combat damage.

Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer
Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer discards nonstop to cast spells for free, so Faith of the Devoted slots in as a passive win condition that punishes opponents just for the deck doing its normal thing.

Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar
Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar's food-and-discard engine generates enough activations that Faith of the Devoted becomes a reliable drain engine on top of everything else the deck is already doing.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Faith of the Devoted is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's almost exclusively a Commander card. In competitive 60-card formats the three-mana enchantment is too slow and too conditional — discard-matters decks in Modern and Legacy have faster, more redundant payoffs. Commander is where it belongs: multiplayer life totals give the drain effect room to accumulate, enchantment-based win conditions are harder to disrupt than creatures, and the format's discard-heavy commanders create the volume of triggers needed to make each point of life loss meaningful. In Oathbreaker it's worth considering in any Planeswalker that enables discard, but the 20-life format shrinks the window considerably.
