Exploration does one thing — it lets you play an extra land every turn — and that one thing warrants a one-mana enchantment in any green deck that cares about land count or land drops. Commanders like Titania, Protector of Argoth turn each additional land into a 5/3 token, and the interaction with Glacial Chasm lets you replay a cumulative-upkeep land without paying the upkeep by sacrificing and re-entering it each turn cycle.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Titania, Protector of Argoth
Titania, Protector of Argoth converts every land that enters the graveyard into a 5/3 Elemental, so Exploration's extra land drop is also a threat when those lands get sacrificed or destroyed — the engine runs faster the moment Exploration hits the battlefield.

Hazezon, Shaper of Sand
Hazezon, Shaper of Sand scales its Sand Warrior token production directly off Desert count, and Exploration accelerates the rate at which those Deserts enter play, compounding the token output each turn.

Lord Windgrace
Lord Windgrace's plus ability discards and then returns lands from the graveyard to play, and Exploration ensures you're consistently holding lands to discard — it feeds the engine rather than just accelerating it.

Lumra, Bellow of the Woods
Lumra, Bellow of the Woods triggers whenever you put a land into play from a non-hand zone, so Exploration's additional land drop from hand stacks cleanly with Lumra's own land-recursion payoffs to flood the board with power.

The Necrobloom
The Necrobloom creates Zombie tokens tied to land drops from zones other than hand, and Exploration is the cleanest way to guarantee a second land drop each turn and push the token engine as early as turn two.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

| pioneer | not legal |

| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |

Commander is where Exploration earns its reputation — 100-card singleton games run long enough for extra land drops to compound into decisive mana and tempo advantages, and the density of landfall payoffs in the format means Exploration rarely sits idle. In Legacy, Exploration is legal but seldom played outside of Lands strategies, where the combination with Life from the Loam and high land density creates a legitimate engine; competitive Legacy is fast enough that a one-mana enchantment with no immediate board impact is a hard sell in most shells. Vintage permits Exploration but the format is too fast and combo-dense for a slow mana-acceleration piece to matter. It's not legal in Modern, Pioneer, Standard, or Pauper, so if you're building in those formats, this isn't an option.

Cheaper options that do most of the same work
Explore and Growth Spiral both replace Exploration at under $0.50 each — they cantrip on resolution, which means you see a card the turn you play them, though you lose the sustained every-turn value Exploration provides across a long game. Wayward Swordtooth is the closest persistent analogue, sitting around $1, and it gives you the second land drop on every subsequent turn at the cost of requiring city's blessing to attack or block.
Price Context
Current price
$33.18 premium tier
At $33.18, Exploration sits firmly in the premium tier — you're paying for a one-mana enchantment with decades of demand and limited reprint history. It holds value well in formats where it's legal because the effect is irreplaceable at its mana cost, but it's a considered purchase rather than an auto-include for budget builders.
