Exchange of Words swaps the text boxes of two target creatures, which means you can saddle an opponent's best threat with the rules text of something useless — or gift Archfiend of the Dross's oil-counter death trigger to a creature they control and watch it become their problem. At two mana for an instant, the cost is low enough that the ceiling on political chaos and combo potential is genuinely high.

Jon Irenicus, Shattered One
Jon Irenicus, Shattered One donates creatures to opponents by design, and Exchange of Words lets you strip a donated creature's text box before it ever reaches them — or swap it onto whatever they already control, compounding the disruption Irenicus specializes in.

Exchange of Words lives almost entirely in Commander, where the text-box swap scales with the power of whatever is sitting across the table from you. Legacy and Vintage legality is technically real, but the effect is too situational and slow for those formats' threat density. Commander is where the card earns its slot: multiplayer boards are full of creatures with dangerous text boxes, and swapping one onto a vanilla blocker can dismantle a win condition at instant speed for two mana. Oathbreaker is a reasonable second home for the same reasons, especially in blue spell-slinger builds that want cheap interaction with a surprise ceiling.
