Does Machines is built for Commander, where artifact synergies snowball across a longer game and the one-time cost is amortized over multiple opponents. In faster 1v1 formats like Modern and Pioneer, the mana investment rarely pays off before the game is decided. Legacy and Vintage have the acceleration to land it early, but those formats have more efficient threats competing for the same slot. Standard and Oathbreaker are the only other realistic homes, and only in dedicated artifact shells where Does Machines can close out a game that's already tilted in your favor.
