Diplomatic Immunity makes any enchanted creature untargetable by opponents while also protecting itself — shroud on a permanent that costs one blue mana to cast is absurd value. Zur the Enchanter is the canonical home, but any commander who lives and dies by auras needs this card.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Zur the Enchanter
Zur the Enchanter tutors Diplomatic Immunity directly onto the battlefield, then hides behind it — opponents can't target Zur, can't target the aura, and the engine runs unchecked until a board wipe shows up.

Bruna, Light of Alabaster
Bruna, Light of Alabaster attacks, loads up with auras mid-combat, and then needs to survive long enough to swing again — Diplomatic Immunity keeps her off the targeting list so the pile of enchantments she's carrying stays intact.

Jon Irenicus, Shattered One
Jon Irenicus, Shattered One donates creatures to opponents and wants those gifts to stick around and trigger his ability — Diplomatic Immunity on a donated creature means the recipient can't remove it, locking them into the game plan whether they like it or not.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Commander is where Diplomatic Immunity does its best work, because the threat density of targeted removal is highest in multiplayer and a single aura blanket-protecting your commander changes the math of every interaction at the table. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but rarely played — one-mana shroud auras don't slot neatly into those formats' combo and tempo strategies. Pauper is the one non-Commander format worth a mention: enchantment-based strategies exist there, and a one-mana protection piece at common is at least worth considering for aura builds. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's logic closely, so any signature spell or planeswalker deck that cares about sticking a piece on the battlefield can treat Diplomatic Immunity the same way.

Price Context
Current price
$3.35 cheap tier
At $3.35, Diplomatic Immunity sits in the cheap tier but punches well above that price point given its inclusion in over 15,000 Zur the Enchanter decks alone. It's a narrow card — you run it in aura-centric commanders or not at all — but within that lane it's a near-auto-include, and that sustained demand keeps the price stable.
