Dictate of the Twin Gods card art
Dictate of the Twin Gods doubles all damage — to everyone, from everything — and flash lets you drop it at the end of an opponent's turn so you're the first to exploit it. Heartless Hidetsugu becomes a one-shot kill with it on board, and Imodane, the Pyrohammer turns every burn spell into a full-table execution.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Imodane, the Pyrohammer

Imodane, the Pyrohammer

45.4% of decks · synergy 0.38

Imodane, the Pyrohammer copies single-target spells to hit every opponent, and Dictate of the Twin Gods doubles all of that damage — a modest burn spell becomes a board-wide lethal threat in a single cast.

02
Mogis, God of Slaughter

Mogis, God of Slaughter

41.4% of decks · synergy 0.38

Mogis, God of Slaughter drains two life per upkeep from each opponent or destroys a creature; Dictate of the Twin Gods turns those two-point bleeds into four-point bleeds, accelerating the attrition clock significantly.

03
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight

28.8% of decks · synergy 0.27

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight already halves damage dealt to you while doubling damage dealt to opponents, and stacking Dictate of the Twin Gods on top means incoming damage is still halved while your opponents take four times the normal hit.

04
Ashling the Pilgrim

Ashling the Pilgrim

34.2% of decks · synergy 0.27

Ashling the Pilgrim fires off a board-wide X-damage burst when it dies with an odd number of counters; Dictate of the Twin Gods doubles that explosion, often converting a medium Ashling activation into a clean table wipe.

05
Kardur, Doomscourge

Kardur, Doomscourge

29.7% of decks · synergy 0.26

Kardur, Doomscourge goads every creature an opponent controls, forcing all that combat damage through opponents' own life totals; Dictate of the Twin Gods doubles every point of that redirected damage, making combat across the table lethal far faster.

FormatVerdict

Dictate of the Twin Gods is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's almost exclusively a Commander card in practice. In competitive formats like Legacy and Vintage, five mana is too slow and the symmetry is too dangerous — you rarely control the board tightly enough to guarantee you benefit first. Modern and Pioneer have the same problem: the format is too fast, and a symmetrical doubler at sorcery speed (outside of flash timing) hands aggressive opponents a kill they didn't earn. Commander is where Dictate of the Twin Gods belongs — the flash clause lets you set up a kill step right before your own turn, multiplayer tables mean the symmetry is diluted across three opponents, and the density of damage-based synergies in red Commander decks gives it consistent payoffs.

Pricing data for Dictate of the Twin Gods isn't currently available in this snapshot, so check Scryfall or your preferred retailer for the current market price. It has seen multiple printings, which historically keeps its floor accessible, but demand from combo-heavy Commander decks keeps it from bottoming out entirely.
