Cubwarden card art
Cubwarden enters with three 1/1 lifelink cats, making it one of the more board-presence-dense four-drops in white-green creature strategies. The cost is that none of those bodies are large, so it needs a payoff — Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker copying it every turn or Ajani, Nacatl Pariah turning each token into a trigger pushes Cubwarden from filler to engine piece.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01

Ajani, Nacatl Pariah

35.1% of decks · synergy 0.35

Ajani, Nacatl Pariah runs Cubwarden because every token it creates is a Cat — Ajani's triggered ability fires for each one, turning a single four-drop into three separate life-gain and damage triggers that pressure opponents and grow the board simultaneously.

02
Nethroi, Apex of Death

Nethroi, Apex of Death

30.5% of decks · synergy 0.30

Nethroi, Apex of Death retrieves Cubwarden for free on a mutate trigger, and because Cubwarden's power is zero, it slides under Nethroi's total power limit while bringing back up to three 1/1 lifelink tokens on top of everything else Nethroi drags out of the graveyard.

03
Arahbo, the First Fang

Arahbo, the First Fang

19.2% of decks · synergy 0.19

Arahbo, the First Fang turns every Cubwarden token into a meaningful combat threat — three 1/1 lifelink cats become three attacking bodies that each benefit from Arahbo's eminence pump, giving the deck both reach and incremental life advantage in the same slot.

Format Analysis

Cubwarden is a Commander card through and through — the token generation and lifelink package is built for multiplayer boards where three bodies matter more than raw stats. In competitive Modern or Pioneer, a four-mana 3/5 that makes three 1/1s is too slow against the format's curve; Cubwarden sees essentially no play there. Legacy and Vintage are even less hospitable. In Commander, Cubwarden earns its slot in Cat tribal, mutate, and token-doubler shells where the tokens compound quickly and the lifelink provides meaningful insurance against faster opponents.

Price Context

Current price

$0.37 bulk tier

At $0.37, Cubwarden is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick up without thinking twice. Bulk rares with narrow tribal applications rarely appreciate unless a commander pushes the tribe into the spotlight, so treat it as a cheap role-player rather than a spec.
