Captain Rex Nebula
Legendary Creature — Human Pilot Employee
At the beginning of combat on your turn, choose target nonland permanent you control. Until end of turn, it becomes a Vehicle artifact with base power and toughness each equal to its mana value, and it gains crew 2 and "Crash Land — Whenever this Vehicle deals damage, roll a six-sided die. If the result is equal to this Vehicle's mana value, sacrifice this Vehicle, then it deals that much damage to any target."

Captain Rex Nebula turns any artifact you control into a Vehicle crewed by a legendary creature — which means expensive noncreature artifacts like Aetherflux Reservoir can attack, block, and trigger combat-dependent payoffs without any additional setup. The cost is a three-mana 2/2 body that does nothing until you have artifacts on the battlefield, so it rewards dense artifact builds and punishes light ones.

Commander is where Captain Rex Nebula belongs — the 100-card singleton format gives you enough room to build around artifact synergies, and the multiplayer environment means animating a Blightsteel Colossus or crewing up a combo piece for an unexpected attack is genuinely impactful. Legacy and Vintage allow it technically, but the three-mana 2/2 frame is too slow and too narrow for those formats, which have better ways to abuse artifacts. Outside of Commander and Oathbreaker, Captain Rex Nebula has no competitive home.

Pricing data for Captain Rex Nebula isn't currently available, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the current market rate before buying. Given its niche build-around role, it tends to be a budget pickup when not in demand — worth grabbing if you're building the artifact-Vehicle shell regardless of price swings.
