Blacksmith's Talent card art
Blacksmith's Talent is a three-chapter saga that makes an Equipment, tutors another Equipment onto the battlefield, then turns all your equipped creatures into double-striking threats — that's a full equipment package compressed into one card. Fear of Missing Out and similar cantrip sagas get the press, but Blacksmith's Talent does more per chapter in any Equipment shell, and Mabel, Heir to Cragflame decks have clocked it at over 60% inclusion for good reason.

Mabel, Heir to Cragflame

Mabel, Heir to Cragflame

62.2% of decks · synergy 0.57

Mabel, Heir to Cragflame wants Equipment attached at all times to trigger her Aura-and-Equipment-matters abilities, and Blacksmith's Talent delivers on all three fronts: it makes a free Equipment, fetches another, and caps it off with a double strike anthem that makes Mabel's combat hits immediately lethal.

02
Tetsuo, Imperial Champion

Tetsuo, Imperial Champion

41.7% of decks · synergy 0.41

Tetsuo, Imperial Champion cares about stacking multiple Equipment onto one attacker to maximize his triggered ability, and Blacksmith's Talent accelerates that setup by fetching a piece directly onto the battlefield while also granting double strike to close out games faster.

03
Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms

Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms

37.7% of decks · synergy 0.35

Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms rewards you for equipping repeatedly, so Blacksmith's Talent's free Equipment token and battlefield tutor translate directly into additional triggers without spending extra mana on equip costs.

04
Nahiri, Forged in Fury

Nahiri, Forged in Fury

31.2% of decks · synergy 0.26

Nahiri, Forged in Fury already cheats Equipment into play for free on attack, and Blacksmith's Talent stacks on top as a secondary tutor plus a double strike finisher that lets Nahiri's equipped creatures threaten lethal in a single swing.

05
Valduk, Keeper of the Flame

Valduk, Keeper of the Flame

28.4% of decks · synergy 0.26

Valduk, Keeper of the Flame creates an Elemental token for each Equipment attached to him, so every piece Blacksmith's Talent fetches or creates is another body added to the board — and the double strike chapter makes each of those Elementals hit twice before they exile.

Format Analysis

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern

standard

oathbreaker

In Commander, Blacksmith's Talent is a staple in any deck that cares about Equipment — three chapters of incremental advantage are easy to sequence over the turns you'd spend equipping anyway, and the double strike closer can end games out of nowhere. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, saga-based Equipment packages are too slow relative to the threats those formats demand, so Blacksmith's Talent is a fringe consideration at best. Standard is its most viable 60-card home, where the card-advantage density of a three-chapter saga in an aggressive Equipment deck can pull ahead of fair midrange opponents. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more broken things to do on turns one through three, so Blacksmith's Talent never gets a look there.

$0.28 bulk tier

At $0.28, Blacksmith's Talent is outright bulk — pick up as many copies as you need without a second thought. Given its 60%-plus inclusion rate in Mabel, Heir to Cragflame decks and strong overlap across multiple popular Equipment commanders, don't expect this to stay in the bulk bin permanently if Equipment strategies keep putting up results.
