Ardent Electromancer enters and refunds up to three mana based on the number of instant and sorcery cards in your graveyard — in the right shell, that's a free or net-positive body on turn three or four. Loop it with Emiel the Blessed and a stocked graveyard and it stops costing mana entirely.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the primary home for Ardent Electromancer — the 99-card graveyard fills up naturally, and the mana refund scales well into the mid-game turns where the format actually plays out. In Pauper it's legal and technically interesting in spell-heavy blue-red shells, but the format's tempo demands are strict and a three-mana 2/2 that conditionally refunds mana competes poorly with creatures that generate immediate board presence. Modern, Pioneer, Legacy, and Vintage are all non-starters; the effect isn't close to efficient enough for those formats' threat density. Stick to Commander, specifically spell-matter or flicker builds where the graveyard threshold is a given rather than a question mark.

Current price
$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, Ardent Electromancer is deep bulk — grab a copy out of any common box without thinking twice. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Commander deck makes the loop with Emiel the Blessed go viral.
