Midnight Guard is a combo piece first and a creature second — its untap trigger on creature entry is the entire reason it exists in decks, and Presence of Gond turns that trigger into infinite 1/1 Elf tokens on the spot. Outside that specific line, a 2/3 vigilance for three mana does nothing interesting, so Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds notwithstanding, you run it because you're building toward the combo, not because the stats earn a slot.

Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds
Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds copies token-generating triggers and can manufacture the creature-enters events Midnight Guard needs to untap repeatedly, making the combo easier to assemble and redundant to execute once Ghired is active.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Midnight Guard sees virtually no play in competitive formats — Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy all have faster, more resilient combo infrastructure that renders a three-mana 2/3 irrelevant. Pauper is the one non-Commander format where the Presence of Gond combo is a known quantity, and Midnight Guard has appeared in fringe Pauper combo lists because both halves of the engine are commons. Commander is where it actually shows up in numbers, slotted into token or enchantress builds that can reliably find and protect Presence of Gond — without that enchantment in hand or on the battlefield, Midnight Guard is a blank.

Current price
$0.21 bulk tier
At $0.21, Midnight Guard is pure bulk — there's no price floor to protect and no scarcity story to tell. It holds that price because demand is narrow and supply is abundant, so don't expect movement in either direction.
