Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad
Legendary Creature — Human Assassin
First strike
Whenever Altaïr attacks, exile up to one target Assassin creature card from your graveyard with a memory counter on it. Then for each creature card you own in exile with a memory counter on it, create a tapped and attacking token that's a copy of it. Exile those tokens at end of combat.

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad turns combat damage into a knowledge engine — each hit loads a Codex counter onto the damaged creature, and when that creature dies, you draw cards equal to its counter stack. The cost is full dependency on creatures dying after getting hit, which Port Razer and Ezio Auditore da Firenze both exploit by stacking combats and guaranteeing kills.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze
Ezio Auditore da Firenze is the natural home — his assassination triggers kill damaged creatures outright, guaranteeing Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad cashes in Codex counters without relying on opponents to block or the board state to cooperate.

| oathbreaker | legal |
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is a Commander card through and through — the Codex counter payoff scales with repeated combats and political damage-dealing over a long game, which only EDH reliably supplies. In Legacy, Modern, or Vintage, a three-mana 2/2 that requires two separate combat steps to generate card advantage is simply too slow against the format's existing threats. Oathbreaker is legal but faces the same problem: the engine needs time and board presence the format rarely grants. Play Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad in Commander and nowhere else.

$1.09 cheap tier
At $1.09, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad sits comfortably in the budget tier — easy to slot into any Assassin or extra-combat build without a second thought. Crossover IP cards sometimes spike on release then stabilize; this one has settled low enough that it's unlikely to get cheaper, so picking up copies now is sensible.
