Rootha, Mercurial Artist + Jeska's Will + Storm-Kiln Artist + Leyline of Anticipation

4-card combo · UR

Verdict

Yes — this 4-card loop converts a single Jeska's Will into infinite storm count, infinite red mana, and your entire library exiled to hand.

Storm-Kiln Artist turns each Jeska's Will cast and each Rootha copy activation into Treasure, and those Treasures fund Rootha's bounce cost to copy the spell again. The loop requires an opponent holding four or more cards to produce the minimum four red mana from the copy — the prerequisite is real and worth tracking at the table. Leyline of Anticipation lets the combo run at flash speed, but it's the weakest piece; any shell running Rootha and Storm-Kiln Artist in Izzet spells wants this line.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

An opponent has four or more cards in hand. If you control a commander, you can choose both of Jeska's Will's modes if desired.

02

Steps

  1. Cast Jeska's Will by paying {2}{R}.
  2. Storm-Kiln Artist triggers, creating a Treasure token.
  3. Activate a Treasure by tapping and sacrificing it, adding {1}.
  4. Holding priority, activate Rootha by paying {2} and returning it from the battlefield to your hand, copying Jeska's Will.
  5. Storm-Kiln Artist triggers, creating a Treasure token.
  6. Resolve the Jeska's Will copy, adding at least {R}{R}{R}{R}.
  7. Activate a Treasure by tapping and sacrificing it, adding {U}.
  8. Cast Rootha by paying {1}{U}{R}.
  9. Repeat from step 4.

03

Result

Infinite LTB; Infinite ETB; Infinite storm count; Infinite red mana; Infinite magecraft triggers; Exile your library with the ability to play the exiled cards until end of turn

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Without Leyline of Anticipation the loop still works at sorcery speed — drop the Leyline if the instant-speed angle isn't worth the deck slot. Birgi, God of Storytelling fills a similar role to Storm-Kiln Artist by refunding red mana on each cast, though it doesn't generate Treasures for Rootha's bounce cost; the Artist is the correct piece here. Close the loop with Grapeshot, Aetherflux Reservoir, or simply casting your exiled library once mana goes infinite.
