There and Back Again's third chapter creates a Smaug token and sacrifices itself; Twinflame copies both Smaug and Eternal Witness, the legend rule kills one Smaug, and its death trigger produces fourteen Treasures. Eternal Witness returns Twinflame, five Treasures pay the 3RR to recast it, and the loop runs as many times as desired. The combo lives in Lore Counter and Saga-based Gruul lists, and any commander that tutors enchantments or instants — Sythis, Harvest's Hand or Horde of Notions — can find a piece.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

02

Steps

  1. At the beginning of your precombat main phase, There and Back Again triggers, putting a lore counter on it.
  2. There and Back Again's third chapter ability triggers, creating a legendary 6/6 Smaug creature token and causing you to sacrifice There and Back Again.
  3. Cast Twinflame by paying {3}{R}{R}, creating a token copy of the Smaug token and Eternal Witness with haste.
  4. Put either Smaug token into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
  5. The Smaug token that died and the Eternal Witness token trigger.
  6. Resolve the Smaug trigger, creating fourteen Treasure tokens.
  7. Resolve the Eternal Witness trigger, returning Twinflame from your graveyard to your hand.
  8. Activate five Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding {3}{R}{R}.
  9. Repeat from step 3.

Result

Infinite LTB; Infinite ETB; Infinite colored mana; Infinite death triggers; Infinite storm count; Infinite magecraft triggers; Infinite Treasure tokens; Infinite copies of creatures you control with haste

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Strionic Resonator can copy There and Back Again's chapter trigger if the Saga line feels too slow, but it adds a third artifact dependency. The loop itself generates infinite mana and tokens but needs a payoff — Impact Tremors or Purphoros, God of the Forge converts the infinite ETBs into a kill without requiring any of the Treasure float.
