Pitiless Plunderer + Eternal Witness + Mitotic Slime + Nethroi, Apex of Death + Shilgengar, Sire of Famine

5-card combo · WBG

Verdict

Yes — this 5-card loop generates infinite mana, infinite death triggers, and infinite tokens by funneling Nethroi's mutate ETB into a self-sustaining Ooze and Treasure engine.

Shilgengar, Sire of Famine sacrifices Nethroi before its reanimation trigger resolves, which both kills Nethroi to produce a Treasure via Pitiless Plunderer and sets up the Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime recursion. Mitotic Slime's death cascade generates enough Oozes to sacrifice for Shilgengar activations, and those activations plus Treasure taps refund the full mutate cost to recast Nethroi and repeat. The loop lives in Nethroi, Apex of Death shells that were already planning to mutate and reanimate, so the pieces aren't dead cards before the engine assembles.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

You control at least one non-Human creature.

02

Steps

  1. Cast Nethroi either from your hand or from the command zone for its mutate cost by paying {4}{G/W}{B}{B} plus commander tax, if applicable, putting it on top of a non-Human creature you control.
  2. When Nethroi enters the battlefield, it triggers.
  3. Holding priority, activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Nethroi.
  4. When Nethroi dies, Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating a Treasure artifact token.
  5. Resolve the Shilgengar ability
  6. Resolve the Nethroi trigger from step 2, returning Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  7. When Eternal Witness enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Nethroi from your graveyard to your hand.
  8. Activate Shilgengar twice by sacrificing Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime.
  9. When Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime die, Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice and Mitotic Slime triggers once.
  10. Resolve both Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  11. Resolve the Mitotic Slime trigger, creating two 2/2 Ooze creature tokens.
  12. Resolve both Shilgengar abilities
  13. Activate Shilgengar twice by sacrificing two Oozes.
  14. When the Oozes die, they each trigger and Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice.
  15. Resolve both Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  16. Resolve both Ooze triggers, creating four 1/1 Ooze creature tokens.
  17. Resolve both Shilgengar abilities
  18. Activate Shilgengar twice by sacrificing two Oozes.
  19. When the Oozes die, Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  20. Resolve both Shilgengar abilities
  21. Activate the seven Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding {4}{G/W}{B}{B}.
  22. Repeat.

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

The combo demands all five pieces on board or in the graveyard, which makes it fragile to Nethroi being exiled from the graveyard before Eternal Witness resolves — if that window gets cut, the loop collapses entirely. Viscera Seer or any free sacrifice outlet can replace Shilgengar's role in other iterations, but Shilgengar's built-in sacrifice and Blood token generation is what makes this particular line self-contained. Once mana goes infinite, Altar of Dementia, Walking Ballista, or any damage-on-death payoff already in the 99 closes the game.
