Pitiless Plunderer + Eternal Witness + Mitotic Slime + Nethroi, Apex of Death + Woe Strider

5-card combo · WBG

Verdict

Yes — this 5-card loop uses Nethroi's mutate trigger to recur itself infinitely, generating unbounded mana, tokens, and death triggers in Abzan.

Nethroi, Apex of Death is both the engine and its own recurrence: Woe Strider sacrifices it before the mutate trigger resolves, Pitiless Plunderer converts the death into a Treasure, and Eternal Witness returns Nethroi to hand when it enters off the trigger. Mitotic Slime feeds Woe Strider's scry outlet between loops and replaces itself with Ooze tokens that each die into more Treasures, netting exactly enough mana — 4GWB for commander tax notwithstanding — to recast Nethroi and keep the chain going.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

You control at least one non-Human creature.

02

Steps

  1. Cast Nethroi either from your hand or from the command zone for its mutate cost by paying {4}{G/W}{B}{B} plus commander tax, if applicable, putting it on top of a non-Human creature you control.
  2. When Nethroi enters the battlefield, it triggers.
  3. Holding priority, activate Woe Strider by sacrificing Nethroi.
  4. When Nethroi dies, Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating a Treasure artifact token.
  5. Resolve both Woe Strider abilities, causing you to scry 1.
  6. Resolve the Nethroi trigger from step 2, returning Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  7. When Eternal Witness enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Nethroi from your graveyard to your hand.
  8. Activate Woe Strider twice by sacrificing Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime.
  9. When Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime die, Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice and Mitotic Slime triggers once.
  10. Resolve both Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  11. Resolve the Mitotic Slime trigger, creating two 2/2 Ooze creature tokens.
  12. Resolve both Woe Strider abilities, causing you to scry 1 twice.
  13. Activate Woe Strider twice by sacrificing two Oozes.
  14. When the Oozes die, they each trigger and Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice.
  15. Resolve both Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  16. Resolve both Ooze triggers, creating four 1/1 Ooze creature tokens.
  17. Resolve both Woe Strider abilities, causing you to scry 1 twice.
  18. Activate Woe Strider twice by sacrificing two Oozes.
  19. When the Oozes die, Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  20. Resolve both Woe Strider abilities, causing you to scry 1 twice.
  21. Activate the seven Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding {4}{G/W}{B}{B}.
  22. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite colored mana; Infinite creature tokens; Infinite death triggers; Infinite ETB; Infinite LTB; Infinite sacrifice triggers; Infinite scry 1; Infinite storm count; Infinite Treasure tokens

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

The combo requires all five pieces assembled, and commander tax accumulates if Nethroi is recurred from the command zone instead of hand — Eternal Witness handles that, but any exile-based removal on Nethroi collapses the loop entirely. In Nethroi shells that already run the mutate package, Cauldron Familiar plus Ashnod's Altar can serve as a simpler death-trigger sink, but nothing else in Abzan replaces Mitotic Slime's self-replacing token generation here — it is not a flex slot.
