Deathrender does the heavy lifting: when each creature dies to Phyrexian Altar, it immediately slams the next piece onto the battlefield from hand, keeping both recursion creatures in perpetual rotation. Eternal Witness retrieves Gravedigger; Gravedigger retrieves Eternal Witness; the Altar converts each sacrifice into colored mana. Any Golgari commander that cares about death triggers — Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, or Chatterfang, Squirrel General — can close the game once this loop is running.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

Deathrender attached to Eternal Witness.

02

Steps

  1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Eternal Witness, adding one mana of any color.
  2. Eternal Witness dies, triggering Deathrender, putting Gravedigger from your hand onto the battlefield and attaching Deathrender to it.
  3. Gravedigger enters the battlefield, returning Eternal Witness from your graveyard to your hand.
  4. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Gravedigger, adding one mana of any color.
  5. Gravedigger dies, triggering Deathrender, putting Eternal Witness from your hand onto the battlefield and attaching Deathrender to it.
  6. Eternal Witness enters the battlefield, returning Gravedigger from your graveyard to your hand.
  7. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite colored mana; Infinite death triggers; Infinite ETB; Infinite LTB; Infinite sacrifice triggers

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Substitute Possessed Portent or any other hand-refilling outlet if Gravedigger is unavailable, though Gravedigger is the cleanest fit because its ETB retrieves exactly the creature needed. Craterhoof Behemoth or Walking Ballista converts the infinite mana into a kill; Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat converts the infinite death triggers instead and dodges counterspells that stop activated abilities.
