Emry, Lurker of the Loch + The One Ring + Phyrexia's Core

3-card combo · U

Verdict

No — this three-piece loop requires a land, a legendary artifact, and a tapped creature each turn, and it costs 4 mana per cycle just to reset the protection, making it too slow and fragile to be a reliable win condition.

The loop sacrifices The One Ring to Phyrexia's Core for 1 life, recasts it off Emry, Lurker of the Loch for 4 mana, and restores protection from everything until the next turn. It is a defensive engine, not a closing engine — the table still untaps and wins through non-damage effects like mill, poison, or sacrifice, all of which punch straight through protection from everything.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

Emry does not have summoning sickness.

02

Steps

  1. Activate Phyrexia's Core's second ability by paying {1}, tapping it and sacrificing The One Ring, causing you to gain one life.
  2. Activate Emry by tapping it, allowing you to cast The One Ring from your graveyard this turn.
  3. Cast The One Ring by paying {4}.
  4. The One Ring triggers, giving you protection from everything until your next turn.
  5. Repeat during each of your turns.

03

Result

Prevent all damage that would be dealt to you; You have protection from everything; Lock

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Void Mirror or an Orbs-of-Warding effect is cheaper protection that doesn't demand 4 mana per turn to maintain. If the goal is looping The One Ring specifically, Goblin Welder or Academy Ruins recur it without needing Phyrexia's Core, and Voltaic Key untaps Emry to accelerate the chain — but none of those substitutions solve the fundamental problem that protection alone does not win the game.
