Grenzo, Dungeon Warden + The Cauldron of Eternity + Phyrexian Altar + Dark Ritual + Skullwinder

5-card combo · BRG

Verdict

Yes — this 5-piece loop generates infinite colored mana and empties graveyards, but the setup cost makes it a midrange combo rather than a fast kill.

Grenzo, Dungeon Warden mills Skullwinder from library to graveyard and then puts it directly onto the battlefield; The Cauldron of Eternity intercepts the sacrifice trigger from Phyrexian Altar to return Skullwinder to the library's bottom, resetting the loop. Dark Ritual recurs each cycle via Skullwinder's ETB trigger, netting mana to sustain the engine indefinitely once it starts. The combo lives in Grixis-adjacent graveyard shells — Grenzo himself is often the commander, and the loop turns his activated ability into a lethal engine.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

Grenzo has power 2 or greater. Once you have infinite mana, you may activate Grenzo's ability any number of times.

02

Steps

  1. Cast Dark Ritual by paying {B}, adding {B}{B}{B}.
  2. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Skullwinder, adding one mana of any color.
  3. When Skullwinder dies, The Cauldron of Eternity triggers, putting Skullwinder from your graveyard onto the bottom of your library.
  4. Activate Grenzo by paying {2}, putting Skullwinder from the bottom of your library into your graveyard, and then putting it onto the battlefield.
  5. When Skullwinder enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Dark Ritual from your graveyard to your hand and causing an opponent to return a card to their hand from their graveyard.
  6. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite LTB; Infinite ETB; Infinite colored mana; Infinite sacrifice triggers; Infinite death triggers; Infinite storm count; Infinite magecraft triggers; Put a selection of creature cards from your library onto the battlefield; Target opponent returns all cards in their graveyard to their hand

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Phyrexian Altar is the hardest piece to replace; Ashnod's Altar adds two colorless instead of one colored, which requires adjusting the Dark Ritual math to stay net-positive. If Skullwinder's forced gift to an opponent is unacceptable, Eternal Witness covers the recursion role without the downside, though it costs one more mana to cast each loop. Ballista or a Goblin Bombardment finish the game on the storm count or infinite ETBs once the mana is live.
