Pitiless Plunderer + Eternal Witness + Mitotic Slime + Nethroi, Apex of Death + Ashnod's Altar

5-card combo · WBG

Verdict

Yes — this 5-card loop generates infinite mana, infinite tokens, and infinite death triggers in a Nethroi mutate shell that was already running every piece.

Nethroi, Apex of Death does the heavy lifting: mutating onto any non-Human creature, then getting sacrificed to Ashnod's Altar before its ETB resolves, it reanimates both Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime for free. Eternal Witness immediately returns Nethroi to hand while Mitotic Slime cascades into a chain of Ooze tokens that generate Treasure via Pitiless Plunderer and colorless via the Altar — each loop nets enough mana to re-mutate Nethroi again and again. The pieces are native to the Nethroi toolbox, so assembly is less a combo draw and more an inevitability once the graveyard fills.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

You control at least one non-Human creature.

02

Steps

  1. Cast Nethroi either from your hand or from the command zone for its mutate cost by paying {4}{G/W}{B}{B} plus commander tax, if applicable, putting it on top of a non-Human creature you control.
  2. When Nethroi enters the battlefield, it triggers.
  3. Holding priority, activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Nethroi, adding {C}{C}.
  4. When Nethroi dies, Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating a Treasure artifact token.
  5. Resolve the Nethroi trigger from step 2, returning Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  6. When Eternal Witness enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Nethroi from your graveyard to your hand.
  7. Activate Ashnod's Altar twice by sacrificing Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime, adding {C}{C}{C}{C}.
  8. When Eternal Witness and Mitotic Slime die, Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice and Mitotic Slime triggers once.
  9. Resolve both Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  10. Resolve the Mitotic Slime trigger, creating two 2/2 Ooze creature tokens.
  11. Activate Ashnod's Altar twice by sacrificing two Oozes, adding {C}{C}{C}{C}.
  12. When the Oozes die, they each trigger and Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice.
  13. Resolve both Pitiless Plunderer triggers, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  14. Resolve both Ooze triggers, creating four 1/1 Ooze creature tokens.
  15. Activate Ashnod's Altar twice by sacrificing two Oozes, adding {C}{C}{C}{C}.
  16. When the Oozes die, Pitiless Plunderer triggers twice, creating two Treasure artifact tokens.
  17. Activate three Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding {G/W}{B}{B}.
  18. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite colored mana; Infinite colorless mana; Infinite creature tokens; Infinite death triggers; Infinite ETB; Infinite LTB; Infinite sacrifice triggers; Infinite storm count; Infinite Treasure tokens

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Viscera Seer or any free sacrifice outlet can substitute for Ashnod's Altar if colorless generation is less critical, though losing the mana from the Altar tightens the loop's headroom considerably. Once mana goes infinite, Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat drains the table off the death triggers without needing an additional attack step — slot one of them in as the primary closer over relying on combat with the token army.
