Afterlife from the Loam reanimates Eternal Witness alongside creatures from opponents' yards; Eternal Witness immediately returns Afterlife to hand, and Ashnod's Altar sacrifices the extras for colorless while Pitiless Plunderer converts those deaths into Treasure for the black component of Afterlife's cost. The loop lives inside Golgari reanimator shells — Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, or any commander that floods graveyards and wants a one-card-in-hand reset button.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

You have at least two opponents that each have a creature card that will enter the battlefield with greater than 0 toughness in their graveyard.

02

Steps

  1. Cast Afterlife from the Loam by paying at most {5}{B}{B}{B}, returning Eternal Witness and at least two other creatures from graveyards to the battlefield under your control.
  2. When Eternal Witness enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Afterlife from the Loam from your graveyard to your hand.
  3. Activate Ashnod's Altar four times by sacrificing three of the creatures returned in step 1, adding six {C}.
  4. When the creatures die, Pitiless Plunderer triggers four times, creating three Treasure tokens.
  5. Activate the three Treasures by tapping and sacrificing them, adding {B}{B}{B}.
  6. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite LTB; Infinite ETB; Infinite colored mana; Infinite sacrifice triggers; Infinite death triggers; Infinite colorless mana; Infinite storm count; Infinite magecraft triggers; Infinite Treasure tokens; Infinite recursion of creature cards in your graveyard

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

The prerequisite is the real liability: without two opponents holding creature cards in their graveyards, Afterlife from the Loam can't return the minimum bodies to recoup costs. Running graveyard-filling effects like Buried Alive or Traumatize targeting opponents patches that dependency in slower pods. Once the loop runs, Walking Ballista or Blood Artist closes the game — the engine generates the mana and triggers, but the kill needs a dedicated outlet.
