Yarok, the Desecrated card art
Yarok, the Desecrated doubles every enters-the-battlefield trigger on your permanents — creatures, artifacts, enchantments, lands — which turns fair cards like Venser, Shaper Savant into absurd tempo plays and makes any ETB-heavy deck operate at a fundamentally different power level. The cost is a five-mana, three-color body that dies to any removal spell and immediately paints a target on itself.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Ashling, the Limitless

Ashling, the Limitless

87.9% of decks · synergy 0.83

Ashling, the Limitless puts a +1/+1 counter on itself whenever a creature with the greatest power enters — Yarok, the Desecrated doubles that trigger, so each new creature entering grows Ashling twice as fast and pushes the power threshold higher on both checks.

02
Sin, Spira's Punishment

Sin, Spira's Punishment

30.1% of decks · synergy 0.27

Sin, Spira's Punishment cares about permanents entering from the graveyard and exile, and Yarok, the Desecrated doubling those arrival triggers accelerates the recursive engine Sin, Spira's Punishment needs to close games.

03
Atraxa, Grand Unifier

Atraxa, Grand Unifier

24.0% of decks · synergy 0.18

Atraxa, Grand Unifier's enter-the-battlefield ability reveals cards equal to the number of permanent types you control, and Yarok, the Desecrated firing that draw trigger twice on a single cast turns an already-powerful tutor effect into a game-defining swing.

04
Indominus Rex, Alpha

Indominus Rex, Alpha

21.4% of decks · synergy 0.18

Indominus Rex, Alpha's splice mechanic tags creatures with keyword abilities as they enter, and Yarok, the Desecrated doubling those ETB-adjacent triggers compounds the keyword pile on every creature that follows.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

Commander is where Yarok, the Desecrated belongs — a singleton 100-card format rewards the redundancy of stacking ETB effects across a full deck, and Yarok's ability scales with every piece rather than requiring specific setup. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's technically legal but sees essentially no play: five mana for a value engine with no immediate board impact is too slow against those formats' threat density, and you can't build around ETB abuse the way Commander allows. Oathbreaker could theoretically support a Yarok, the Desecrated shell, but the 60-card constraint and faster pace limit how many ETB permanents you can chain before the game ends.

Price Context

Current price

$0.37 bulk tier

At $0.37, Yarok, the Desecrated is a bulk rare despite sitting in nearly 90% of Ashling, the Limitless decks and thousands of others — high reprint availability has kept the price floor low. It's a safe pickup at this price; the demand is clearly there, and the gameplay power isn't going anywhere.
