Shrieking Drake card art
Shrieking Drake is a one-mana bounce-your-own-creature loop piece that does nothing by itself and everything in the right shell. Pair it with Intruder Alarm or Lonis, Cryptozoologist and a free-cast engine, and a single blue mana becomes infinite enters-the-battlefield triggers.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Lonis, Cryptozoologist

Lonis, Cryptozoologist

70.1% of decks · synergy 0.68

Lonis, Cryptozoologist turns every creature cast into a Clue token, so Shrieking Drake bouncing and recasting itself converts one blue mana into arbitrarily many tokens — and then into whatever those tokens crack into.

02
Chulane, Teller of Tales

Chulane, Teller of Tales

55.0% of decks · synergy 0.51

Chulane, Teller of Tales draws a card and puts a land into play whenever a creature enters, so Shrieking Drake looping itself becomes infinite landfall, infinite draws, and effectively infinite mana.

03
Clement, the Worrywort

Clement, the Worrywort

32.6% of decks · synergy 0.30

Clement, the Worrywort cares about creatures entering and leaving, and Shrieking Drake provides the cleanest self-contained loop to stack those triggers without needing a second creature on the field.

04
Geralf, the Fleshwright

Geralf, the Fleshwright

23.3% of decks · synergy 0.22

Geralf, the Fleshwright generates tokens on creature casts, so Shrieking Drake's self-bounce loop hands Geralf an infinite stream of tokens off a single blue mana source.

Commander is where Shrieking Drake actually lives — it's nearly irrelevant as a 1/1 flier but becomes a centerpiece in any deck that rewards repeated creature casts or enters-the-battlefield triggers. In Pauper it's legal and has seen fringe play in bounce-heavy tempo shells, though the format doesn't reliably support the combo payoffs that make it broken in EDH. Legacy and Vintage allow it, but a 1/1 that requires setup is far too slow for those formats' threat density. The card is unplayable in Standard and Pioneer, which is irrelevant — no one is casting Shrieking Drake there anyway.
