Writhing Chrysalis is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker. Commander is its natural home — Eldrazi tribal has a dedicated shell, the token generation scales in multiplayer, and six mana is far more accessible when you have ramp to spare. In Pauper it's a legitimate common threat: a 4/4 that produces a 3/3 on entry is above rate for the format, and colorless Eldrazi strategies exist at that level. Modern and Legacy see it only in fringe colorless Eldrazi shells where the competition is steep, and Writhing Chrysalis rarely makes the cut over faster or more impactful options.
