Wellspring replaces itself when it enters and again when it leaves, stapling two card draws onto a single artifact that happens to do something in between. The cost is that you need a sacrifice or bounce engine to cash out the second trigger — without one, it's just a slow Divination.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Wellspring earns its slot, specifically in artifact decks that move permanents in and out of play repeatedly — each loop nets another card. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but unplayed; the formats move too fast for a three-mana artifact that asks you to jump through hoops to draw two cards. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: playable in the right shell, irrelevant outside it.

$1.32 cheap tier
At $1.32, Wellspring sits in the cheap tier — fair for a card with a narrow but real niche. It won't spike, but it won't drop to bulk either; artifact-synergy demand keeps a quiet floor under it.
