Warleader's Call gives every creature you control +1/+1 and pings opponents for 1 damage whenever a creature enters under your control — on a three-mana enchantment that scales with the size of your board from the moment it lands. Token strategies that generate dozens of creatures in a turn, like Storm Herd or Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon, convert that trigger into a kill condition without needing to attack.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon
Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon creates a stream of tokens on every attacking swing, so Warleader's Call converts each trigger into free damage — the drain can end games before those tokens ever connect in combat.
Ajani, Nacatl Pariah
Ajani, Nacatl Pariah floods the board with Cat tokens and pumps the team, making Warleader's Call a natural fit that both buffs the tokens and turns every new entry into a free ping.

Commander Mustard
Commander Mustard rewards going wide with Soldiers, and Warleader's Call stacks a static anthem on top of the damage-on-entry trigger — every creature Commander Mustard produces does double duty.

Otharri, Suns' Glory
Otharri, Suns' Glory reanimates creatures with experience counters attached, meaning each recursion trigger from Otharri, Suns' Glory feeds the Warleader's Call ping while the counters compound the board's power.

General Ferrous Rokiric
General Ferrous Rokiric generates a 4/4 Golem every time you cast a multicolored spell, so Warleader's Call turns that spell-slot investment into immediate damage and a beefier token with the anthem applied.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Warleader's Call is legal across every major constructed format but has found its home almost exclusively in Commander, where token-generation runs deep enough to make the damage trigger a legitimate win condition. In Modern and Pioneer, three mana for a static anthem with a conditional ping is too slow against interactive decks that can answer it before the engine pays off. Standard is the one constructed environment where Warleader's Call sees real play — aggressive token strategies have enough density there to exploit both halves of the card before the game ends. Legacy and Vintage have no use for it; the formats move too fast and the effect doesn't break any axis that matters at that power level.

Cheaper options that do most of the same work
Shared Animosity and Intangible Virtue each cover part of what Warleader's Call does — Virtue gives the same +1/+1 anthem to tokens for around a dollar, while Shared Animosity can push far more combat damage in the right deck, both under $2. Neither replicates the drain trigger, so if that's the line you're building toward, Purphoros, God of the Forge is the closer analog at a higher price point, not a budget substitute.
Price Context
Current price
$9.08 mid tier
At $9.08, Warleader's Call sits in the mid tier — not a throwaway include, but not a barrier to entry either. It holds that price because it slots into multiple popular archetypes and has no direct functional reprint, so demand stays steady.
