The Locust God card art
The Locust God turns every draw into a 1/1 haste flier, which means a single Skullclamp activation can spiral into a lethal board in a single turn. Six mana is the sticker price, but the built-in recursion from the command zone means removal barely slows it down — Atreus, Impulsive Son // Kratos, Stoic Father decks that flood the board with tokens know exactly what they're getting.

Atreus, Impulsive SonKratos, Stoic Father

Atreus, Impulsive Son // Kratos, Stoic Father

70.3% of decks · synergy 0.64

Atreus, Impulsive Son // Kratos, Stoic Father generates card draw through its combat-damage triggers, and every one of those draws hands The Locust God another 1/1 haste insect — the two engines compound each other into a board that wins through sheer volume.

02
Arjun, the Shifting Flame

Arjun, the Shifting Flame

69.8% of decks · synergy 0.62

Arjun, the Shifting Flame replaces your hand on every spell cast, which fires The Locust God's trigger for each card drawn in that new hand — a single cantrip can produce seven or eight insects in one shot.

03
Kasla, the Broken Halo

Kasla, the Broken Halo

60.6% of decks · synergy 0.54

Kasla, the Broken Halo rewards drawing multiple cards per turn with escalating effects, and The Locust God converts each of those draws into a hasty attacker that pressures opponents the same turn it's created.

04
Gavi, Nest Warden

Gavi, Nest Warden

59.5% of decks · synergy 0.53

Gavi, Nest Warden makes the first cycling each turn free, and every cycled card draws a card — The Locust God turns that stream of cheap cantrips into a continuous stream of 1/1 haste insects that close the game quickly.

05
Brallin, Skyshark RiderShabraz, the Skyshark

Brallin, Skyshark Rider // Shabraz, the Skyshark

45.1% of decks · synergy 0.39

Brallin, Skyshark Rider // Shabraz, the Skyshark pings opponents for each card drawn and grows Shabraz simultaneously, so pairing it with The Locust God means each draw trigger deals damage, creates a flier, and pumps the shark all at once.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

Commander is where The Locust God does its best work — a 4/4 flier that generates a board from card draw is a legitimate threat, and the command zone recursion means opponents need exile effects rather than simple removal to answer it. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but too slow and too fragile against the countermagic density those formats demand. Modern and Pioneer theoretically allow it, but six mana without a combo payoff to close immediately is too slow to compete with those formats' clocks. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home if the signature spell is a wheel effect, since a single Wheel of Fortune with The Locust God in play can produce seven insects with haste.
