Vraska, Betrayal's Sting enters with six loyalty on a six-mana body, immediately threatens a proliferate-fueled ultimate, and can stone-cold convert any nonland permanent into a Treasure — that's a real planeswalker, not a situational one. The cost is the mana: six is a lot to ask in a format where threats compete for the same slots, but Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider or Carth the Lion trivially break the math and make her worth every pip.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Carth the Lion
Carth the Lion is the natural home — his static ability adds an extra loyalty counter to every Vraska, Betrayal's Sting activation, which means her -9 becomes reachable from the turn she lands, and his tutor-on-death trigger helps find her in the first place.

Auntie Ool, Cursewretch
Auntie Ool, Cursewretch runs poison as a win condition, and Vraska, Betrayal's Sting's -1 applies a poison counter directly — that's targeted, repeatable, and bypasses combat entirely, which is exactly what a control-oriented infect shell wants.

Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa
Ixhel, Scion of Atraxa proliferates on attack, which accelerates Vraska, Betrayal's Sting toward her ultimate faster than almost any other commander — Ixhel also shares the Golgari-plus-white color identity, so Vraska fits cleanly in the 99.

The Reaper, King No More
The Reaper, King No More cares about poison and toxic, and Vraska, Betrayal's Sting's -1 is one of the few repeatable non-creature sources of poison counters in black-green, making her a reliable finisher in a strategy that otherwise depends on combat.

Agent Frank Horrigan
Agent Frank Horrigan wants pressure and inevitability, and Vraska, Betrayal's Sting provides both — her -1 picks off blockers or troublesome permanents while her ultimate closes games independently of combat damage.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Vraska, Betrayal's Sting actually lives — the 100-card singleton format gives her proliferate synergies, planeswalker-tribal support, and enough time to hit her ultimate, none of which exist reliably in faster formats. In Modern and Pioneer she's legal but largely absent: six mana is far too slow for those formats' threat density, and her abilities don't generate the immediate board impact those formats demand. Legacy and Vintage have the raw power to support her mana cost but have no reason to run her over cheaper, faster threats. Oathbreaker is worth a mention — as the oathbreaker herself in a poison or proliferate shell, Vraska, Betrayal's Sting can function as the engine the format is built around.
