Vow of Duty locks down a threatening creature by granting it vigilance and +2/+2 while forcing it to attack opponents instead of you — the enchanted creature becomes your shield. Nelly Borca, Impulsive Accuser turns that into a mandatory attack trigger, making Vow of Duty one of the cleanest pieces in her forced-combat engine.

Nelly Borca, Impulsive Accuser
Nelly Borca, Impulsive Accuser needs creatures attacking opponents every turn to fire her trigger, and Vow of Duty converts the scariest thing across the table into a permanent, compulsory attacker aimed away from you.

Mazzy, Truesword Paladin
Mazzy, Truesword Paladin rewards stacking Auras on creatures you control, but Vow of Duty lets you attach an Aura to an opponent's creature — which Mazzy still counts — netting her trigger while neutralizing a threat.

Eriette of the Charmed Apple
Eriette of the Charmed Apple drains opponents for each Aura you control enchanting their creatures, so Vow of Duty doubles as removal and a free life-loss clock.

Breena, the Demagogue
Breena, the Demagogue thrives when creatures are attacking players other than her controller, and Vow of Duty's mandatory redirection keeps that political pressure constant while growing Breena with counters.

Kangee, Sky Warden
Kangee, Sky Warden cares about birds attacking and about combat in general, and Vow of Duty on an opponent's large flier redirects aerial damage and feeds the combat-step math Kangee demands.

Vow of Duty is a Commander card through and through — the forced-attack clause only matters in a multiplayer game where redirecting aggression onto other opponents is a real political lever. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but irrelevant; three-mana Auras that don't generate immediate card advantage or tempo have no place in those formats. Oathbreaker is the one other 60-card-adjacent format where it occasionally shows up, specifically in spellslinger or enchantment-matters builds that need cheap enchantment density. Outside Commander, leave it on the shelf.

Price Context
Current price
$0.23 bulk tier
At $0.23, Vow of Duty sits firmly in bulk territory — grab a copy out of any dollar box without thinking twice. Bulk enchantments with narrow Commander homes rarely climb, so don't expect the price to move unless a new forced-combat commander spikes demand.
