Vengeful Bloodwitch card art
Vengeful Bloodwitch lands as a sacrifice outlet that drains every opponent for every creature you feed it — an effect powerful enough to close games in the right shell. Warren Soultrader and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician both want exactly this kind of repeatable, low-friction outlet, and at three mana it's cheap enough to land early and start working immediately.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Yawgmoth, Thran Physician

Yawgmoth, Thran Physician

37.7% of decks · synergy 0.32

Yawgmoth, Thran Physician already asks you to sacrifice creatures constantly, and Vengeful Bloodwitch converts each of those sacrifices into drain triggers that stack across all opponents — effectively doubling the life-loss pressure every time the engine spins.

02
Edgar Markov

Edgar Markov

32.8% of decks · synergy 0.28

Edgar Markov floods the board with Vampire tokens, and Vengeful Bloodwitch turns that wide army into a drain engine — sac the tokens you don't need, chip life totals down, and close games that would otherwise stall into a board wipe.

03
Elenda, Saint of Dusk

Elenda, Saint of Dusk

28.9% of decks · synergy 0.23

Elenda, Saint of Dusk grows whenever creatures die, and Vengeful Bloodwitch gives her a free sacrifice outlet that also drains opponents — the two cards form a loop where fueling Elenda's counters simultaneously pressures life totals.

04

Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER

27.5% of decks · synergy 0.21

Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER rewards you for piling up counters and pressuring opponents, and Vengeful Bloodwitch provides a consistent drain trigger that advances that damage clock without needing combat.

05
Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker

Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker

21.8% of decks · synergy 0.16

Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker returns power-1-or-less creatures from the graveyard at end of turn, and Vengeful Bloodwitch lets you sacrifice them for drain triggers before Shirei reanimates them — a loop that bleeds opponents out over several turns.

Vengeful Bloodwitch is legal across Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Standard, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, though Commander is clearly where it does its best work. In 60-card formats the drain-per-sacrifice rate is fine but competes with faster, more targeted finishers, and without an inherently wide board the effect is too slow to matter. In Commander the math flips: three opponents means each sacrifice triggers three drain instances, and in a sacrifice-heavy deck that arithmetic closes games. Oathbreaker is the other format worth noting — if your planeswalker shell generates fodder, Vengeful Bloodwitch converts that fodder into life loss at a rate that scales with player count.

Price Context

Current price

$0.37 bulk tier

At $0.37, Vengeful Bloodwitch sits firmly in bulk territory, which is surprising given how cleanly it slots into high-synergy shells. Bulk rares with real combo adjacency tend to drift upward if the archetype gains popularity, but at this price there's no reason to wait — it costs less than a pack of sleeves.
