Vapor Snare bounces a target nonland permanent and draws you a card — solid tempo at the cost of five mana and requiring you to control an Island. That price tag keeps it out of competitive blue piles, but in slower Commander games the cantrip makes the rate acceptable.

In Commander, Vapor Snare is fringe-playable — five mana is steep for a bounce effect when Cyclonic Rift and even Repulse exist, but the Island requirement is rarely a meaningful restriction in mono-blue or heavy-blue builds. In Legacy and Vintage the card sees no play; those formats have Brainstorm, Force of Will, and interaction at one or two mana, so five mana sorcery-speed bounce is simply too slow regardless of the cantrip. Modern has no interest either, where tempo decks want Snapcaster Mage targets that cost one or two. Vapor Snare lives and dies in Commander, and even there it's a budget placeholder rather than a staple.
