Three mana is an honest rate for the front side, but the real payoff is the back — a land that taps for red and pings for 3 is genuinely backbreaking in a long game.

In Commander, Vance's Blasting Cannons // Spitfire Bastion fits naturally into red storm, spellslinger, and impulse-draw strategies where casting multiple spells per turn is already the plan — flipping into Spitfire Bastion happens organically rather than as a forced goal. The problem is that red enchantments at three mana compete for slots against Jeska's Will, Birgi, God of Storytelling, and other engines that generate resources faster. In Pioneer and Modern it's essentially unplayed — the power ceiling is too low and the flip condition too slow for those formats' pacing. Legacy and Vintage have zero interest. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there it's a role-player rather than a staple.
