Transmogrifying Licid turns any creature it enchants into a 3/3 colorless artifact creature, locking out its abilities and identity for as long as the Licid stays attached. The setup cost — one mana to attach, one mana per turn to maintain — is real, but the payoff in artifact-synergy decks like Magda, Brazen Outlaw is substantial enough to justify the slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Transmogrifying Licid is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and that's where the conversation starts and ends — it's nowhere near Legacy or Vintage play, where the bar for interactive pieces is far higher than a mana-taxed aura-creature hybrid. In Commander it finds a genuine home in artifact-matters strategies that want both a removal effect and an artifact body on the same card, with the bonus that turning an opponent's commander into a featureless 3/3 can be a soft answer to problematic ability-based generals. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth mentioning, where similar synergy shells exist at a smaller scale.

$0.24 bulk tier
At $0.24, Transmogrifying Licid is deep bulk — you're picking it out of a quarter bin, not tracking it down. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to spike, but for the artifact-synergy decks that actually want it, the cost is essentially zero.
