Toils of Night and Day card art
Toils of Night and Day taps two permanents and untaps two permanents for two mana at instant speed — that's four permanents touched on a single card, which is the entire reason it exists. It's a worse Dual Casting in most combo shells, but where it shines is any deck that needs to untap key pieces mid-chain without committing to an enchantment.

Toils of Night and Day is a Commander card through and through — the tap/untap symmetry on four permanents generates real value only when you have enough moving pieces to exploit both halves in the same turn. In Pauper it's technically legal but outclassed by cheaper, more focused effects. Legacy and Vintage have no interest; the card does nothing independently and those formats punish setup costs harshly. Commander is where the ceiling exists, specifically in tap-outlet combo decks that need redundant untap effects to close a loop.

Price Context

Current price

$0.17 bulk tier

At $0.17, Toils of Night and Day is deep bulk — pick it up in a trade binder or throw it in a cheap order as an afterthought. Bulk instant-speed utility pieces at this price point rarely spike unless a new commander makes them a four-of in a combo loop, so don't expect movement.
