Throne of Geth card art
Throne of Geth proliferates at instant speed for free once per turn — tap it, sacrifice an artifact, and every counter on every permanent you control ticks up one. The cost is real: you're burning an artifact to fuel it, so Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp and Venser, Corpse Puppet builds lean on token artifacts and recursive fodder to keep the engine running without eating pieces they need.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp

Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp

62.9% of decks · synergy 0.62

Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp turns every Throne of Geth activation into a free +1/+1 counter on itself, and since Zabaz also destroys modular artifacts, the counters those artifacts shed hit your board and immediately become fodder to sacrifice again.

02
Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos

Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos

50.0% of decks · synergy 0.48

Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos floods the board with Phyrexian artifact tokens, giving Throne of Geth a renewable sacrifice outlet so you're never burning a meaningful permanent to proliferate.

03
Omarthis, Ghostfire Initiate

Omarthis, Ghostfire Initiate

46.5% of decks · synergy 0.42

Omarthis, Ghostfire Initiate grows on +1/+1 counters and turns those counters into card advantage when Omarthis leaves play, so Throne of Geth's free proliferate trigger is directly accelerating the commander's size and eventual payoff.

05

Elesh Norn

36.0% of decks · synergy 0.35

Elesh Norn's Incubate tokens are artifacts with counters already on them, so Throne of Geth turns every combat step into a proliferate chain while the token supply keeps the sacrifice cost trivial.

Commander is where Throne of Geth lives — proliferate scales with the number of permanents in play, and a four-player game with planeswalkers, infect creatures, and charge counters on the board makes each activation dramatically more impactful than in any 1v1 setting. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with formats that demand immediate board presence, and a tap-to-proliferate artifact simply doesn't make the cut in those environments. Modern has faster clocks and more reliable proliferate redundancy through dedicated synergy decks, where Throne of Geth could theoretically appear in fringe poison builds but rarely does. Oathbreaker is the sleeper format for it — planeswalker loyalty counters are always in play, and a free proliferate every turn cycle is a legitimate threat.
