Commander is where Thornscape Familiar earns its slot — red-white spell-slinger and token strategies routinely run it as a cost-reducer that also blocks early aggression. In Pauper it's legal and occasionally sees fringe play in tempo shells that want cheap bodies with upside, though the format's speed means a 1/1 for two needs to matter immediately. Legacy and Vintage lists almost never touch it; dedicated cost-reduction in those formats comes from pieces with a steeper ceiling. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander — if your signature spell is red or white and expensive, Thornscape Familiar is a quiet two-drop that pays for itself.
