Skyfire Phoenix is a recursive 3/2 flier that returns from the graveyard whenever you cast a Phoenix — an engine piece that snowballs hard once two or three Phoenixes are in the bin. In Syrix, Carrier of the Flame lists it's nearly mandatory, and compared to something like Squee, the Immortal, the payoff scales with your board rather than just eating a card slot.

Syrix, Carrier of the Flame
Syrix, Carrier of the Flame appears in over 94% of Syrix decks alongside Skyfire Phoenix because Syrix triggers damage on every Phoenix cast, and Skyfire Phoenix's recursion engine means you're casting Phoenixes repeatedly — stacking those triggers turn after turn until opponents run out of life.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Skyfire Phoenix actually lives — the 99-card singleton format gives you enough Phoenixes to chain the recursion reliably, and Syrix, Carrier of the Flame turns every resurrection into a damage trigger. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with faster, more resilient threats and sees no meaningful play. Skyfire Phoenix is locked out of Modern, Pioneer, Standard, and Pauper entirely, so if you're building outside Commander or Oathbreaker, it's not an option.

$0.30 bulk tier
At $0.30, Skyfire Phoenix sits firmly in bulk territory — you're picking it up as a role-player, not a speculation target. It holds that floor comfortably as long as Syrix, Carrier of the Flame remains a popular Commander build, but don't expect the price to move in either direction.
