Tallowisp turns every Spirit or Arcane spell you cast into a free Demonic Tutor for Auras, filling your hand with enchantments the moment you start playing your game plan. The trigger is free, repeatable, and stacks — in a Spirit-tribal or enchantress shell, it's one of the most efficient card-selection engines available at two mana.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Tallowisp earns its keep — Spirit-tribal commanders like Kykar, Wind's Fury or Isshin, Two Heavens as One create enough Spirit triggers to fire it repeatedly, and Aura-based voltron builds around commanders like Siona, Captain of the Pyleas or Tuvasa the Sunlit treat it as a critical tutor engine. In Legacy and Vintage, Tallowisp sees fringe play in Spirit-based combo and control shells, but those formats offer faster and more consistent redundancy, so it rarely makes the cut. Modern has the same problem: the Aura targets are strong but the Spirit synergy density needed to make the trigger reliable isn't there in competitive builds.

Price Context
Current price
$0.32 bulk tier
At $0.32, Tallowisp is deep bulk — the price reflects its narrow archetype requirements rather than its power ceiling inside them. It's stable there; casual Spirit and enchantress demand keeps a floor under it, but nothing about the current metagame suggests a spike.
