Stunt Double card art
Stunt Double enters as a copy of any creature on the battlefield — at flash speed, meaning you can drop it at end of turn or in response to a trigger to immediately slot into an existing engine. The four-mana cost is fair for a Clone variant, and the flash clause is the entire reason to run this over slower options; Felidar Guardian and Gyruda, Doom of Depths decks in particular want the ability to copy at instant speed to chain triggers mid-stack.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Gyruda, Doom of Depths

Gyruda, Doom of Depths

71.7% of decks · synergy 0.69

Gyruda, Doom of Depths mills four cards and copies any creature it hits — Stunt Double's even-mana-cost body makes it a legal mill target, and copying Gyruda itself is the core loop that generates infinite ETB triggers.

02
Sakashima of a Thousand FacesVial Smasher the Fierce

Sakashima of a Thousand Faces // Vial Smasher the Fierce

51.1% of decks · synergy 0.50

Sakashima of a Thousand Faces removes the legend rule restriction on copies, turning Stunt Double into a free second instance of whatever your best creature is — often your commander — without the usual sacrifice downside.

03

Aang, at the Crossroads

33.0% of decks · synergy 0.32

Aang, at the Crossroads cares about creature types and entering the battlefield, so Stunt Double pulling double duty as an ETB trigger and a type-matching copy gives the deck an efficient redundancy piece.

04
Hidetsugu and Kairi

Hidetsugu and Kairi

34.4% of decks · synergy 0.32

Hidetsugu and Kairi triggers on death and on ETB, so Stunt Double copying it sets up an immediate second death trigger when the copy dies at end of turn — a clean two-for-one off a single four-mana play.

05
Riku of Two Reflections

Riku of Two Reflections

17.7% of decks · synergy 0.17

Riku of Two Reflections can copy creature spells as they're cast, meaning Stunt Double enters, copies a target, and Riku's trigger makes a third creature — three bodies off one card is the kind of tempo swing that justifies the inclusion.

Stunt Double is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and that's essentially the full picture — it's not available in Modern, Pioneer, Standard, or Pauper. In Commander, it's the format where Stunt Double earns its reputation: flash gives it a role that sorcery-speed Clones can't fill, letting you copy a freshly resolved threat before your opponent untaps or ambush an attacker by copying a large blocker at instant speed. Legacy and Vintage have access to it, but Clone effects compete poorly against the raw power of those formats and it sees essentially no competitive play there. Oathbreaker functions similarly to Commander at a smaller scale, and the same flash-Clone logic applies.

Pricing data for Stunt Double isn't currently available, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the latest number before buying. Historically it has sat in the budget-to-mid range for a Clone variant — the flash premium keeps it from being bulk, but it's rarely expensive enough to give pause.
