Stoneskin turns a creature's toughness into a damage shield — relevant only in decks that weaponize toughness, useless everywhere else. Doran, the Siege Tower is the one shell where this effect is genuinely threatening; outside of it, you're paying two mana to make a blocker slightly stickier.

Stoneskin is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Legacy and Vintage have no meaningful homes for it — those formats don't run toughness-matters engines, and two mana for +0/+4 is not a competitive rate when removal and threats operate at much higher efficiency. Commander is where Stoneskin actually gets played, strictly inside Doran, the Siege Tower and Arcades, the Strategist shells where toughness doubles as offense.
