Standstill locks the table into a dilemma: cast a spell and hand three cards to your opponents, or pass indefinitely while you untap and develop freely. The catch is that you're casting spells too, so the enchantment rewards decks — like Heliod, the Radiant Dawn — that can generate meaningful value without touching the stack.

Heliod, the Radiant Dawn
Heliod, the Radiant Dawn's triggered abilities and enchantment recursion let the deck operate below the spell axis, so Standstill sits on the battlefield as a soft lock while opponents agonize over whether to crack it — and when they do, Heliod turns those three cards into fuel.

In Legacy, Standstill built entire archetypes around it — Standstill-Miracles and Stasis shells that could pass turn after turn on the back of Mishra's Factory activations, never technically casting a spell. Commander is more chaotic: four opponents means someone almost always breaks it within a turn cycle, so the card reads closer to 'draw three for UU' than a lock piece. That's still a fine rate, but you're running it for the card advantage, not the stasis. In Vintage and Oathbreaker the math is similar — powerful effect, fragile execution.

Price Context
Current price
$2.53 cheap tier
At $2.53, Standstill sits firmly in the budget tier despite a Legacy pedigree that could justify a higher ceiling. It's held this price range steadily because Commander demand is real but not explosive — a safe pickup that won't spike on you.
